Methodology

Le'an Aliyah does not auto-score communities. You enter a score for every factor based on your own understanding, observation, or research. The app then weights those scores to produce an overall comparison.

The overall score is a linear-weighted average of the factor scores you entered. Factors are ordered by priority; the factor at position 1 receives the highest weight, position 2 the second-highest, and so on.

Formula:

Overall = round( Σ(score × weight) / Σ(10 × weight) × 10, 1 )

Where weight = totalFactors − position + 1. Factors marked N/A are removed from both the numerator and denominator so they do not shift the remaining weights.

Le'an Aliyah surfaces reference data to help you form your own scores. Sources include:

• Google Places: presence of English-language institutions (synagogues, schools, community centers) tagged as English-speaking.
• CBS (Central Bureau of Statistics): population totals, age bands, socio-economic index, and reported English-speaker population where available.
• Israeli Ministry of Education: school lists, addresses, and classifications, enriched with geocoding from Google Maps.
• Google Maps: distance and duration estimates from the community centroid to destinations you define (workplace, family, airport, hospital, school).
• Israeli real estate sites: publicly available listings and market data used as reference for housing indicators.

Housing indicators reference publicly available Israeli real-estate listings and market data. Housing is user-scored by default; hover a community for available reference data.

Any factor you create yourself (e.g. "Quiet vibe", "Proximity to grandparents") is scored manually with the 0–10 slider. Le'an Aliyah does not auto-populate these.

CBS and Ministry of Education datasets are refreshed periodically as new open-data releases are published. Google Places and Google Maps signals are refreshed on demand.
